Interview with American Psychological Association
Dec 18, 2025I was interviewed by the American Psychological Association to share my take on the 2025 Practitioner Pulse Survey findings.
𝗞𝗲𝘆 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗲𝗮𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝗜 𝗶𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗰𝗲:
▪️ 56% have used AI tools in their practices in the last year.
▪️ 29% use AI on at least a monthly basis.
▪️ 38% are worried that AI could make some or all their job duties obsolete.
“AI is already in your practice even if you’re not using these administrative tools, because many of the people sitting on the couch across from you are turning to ChatGPT in between sessions,” said Rachel Wood, PhD, founder of the AI Mental Health Collective.
"For that reason, it’s critical for psychologists to ask patients about their use of AI and to develop the practical and ethical competence to support situations their patients may face and spot signs of misuse."
“Whether you’re for or against AI is less important than having a baseline level of knowledge, information, and understanding, so that you’re equipped to hold space for it,” Wood said.
