Keynotes!

Jun 14, 2026

It was an honor to give the keynote at the Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine and Oakland University School of Education and Human Services' Faircloth Evening of Medical Humanism.

This award dinner celebrated peer-nominated medical and counseling students who exemplify noteworthy empathy and humanism... those who go above and beyond to compassionately connect with patients, clients, and everyone along their day-to-day path.

I spoke about that which makes us irreplaceable in the age of machines. The room that night, full of remarkable individuals, made it easy to see why 𝗵𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗻𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗹𝗹 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗺𝗼𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗼𝘄𝗲𝗿𝗳𝘂𝗹 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲.

The message I shared centered on this:

Human presence is the capacity to see, witness, and connect with another person in their most vulnerable moments. This irreplaceable balm becomes more vital as artificial intelligence reshapes how we document, treat, and even how we listen. As machines grow more capable, so does the value of real human care. Those being honored represent what no algorithm can replicate: the willingness to be fully, courageously human in service to others. This is precisely what the world needs most.
