Losing Healthcare Access Due to AI Preferences

Jun 14, 2026

People are losing access to mental health support if they refuse to consent to AI note-takers.

This Melbourne psychiatrist's intake form states:

"𝗜 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘂𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗜 𝘁𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘀𝗰𝗿𝗶𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗻𝗼𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝘆 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁, 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗹𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘀, 𝗿𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗺𝘆 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗰𝗮𝗿𝗲".

If the patient does not wish to use AI, they are told they "𝗻𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝗿 𝗱𝗼𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗼 𝗿𝗲𝗳𝗲𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗺 𝘁𝗼 𝗮 𝗱𝗶𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗿𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗿".

𝘓𝘦𝘵'𝘴 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘴𝘴:

Not only is this shaping access for patients, this is shaping the field of mental health professionals.

Practitioners will be categorized into pro vs anti AI clinicians.
▪️ How might this impact insurance reimbursement in the future?
▪️ How might this impact liability?
▪️ What additional pressures might this add to an already strained mental health care system?

I'm curious your thoughts on this one.
