Relational Asymmetry and AI

This is most definitely already in your life: relational asymmetry.

Most relationships have some degree of relational asymmetry (meaning unequal levels or a mismatch in dynamics)

During interactions we engage in sociomorphing, or we sociomorphize, the interaction to make up for the asymmetry. We adapt to the level of social engagement (which is void of metacommunication) in order to recover the symmetry.

In other words, we 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘰𝘸𝘯 𝘣𝘪-𝘥𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘯𝘢𝘭 𝘴𝘬𝘪𝘭𝘭𝘴 𝘢𝘵𝘳𝘰𝘱𝘩𝘺 during the interaction in order to gain some sense of symmetry with the chatbot (read that again).

A sense of omnipotence in defining relational space can occur over time when individuals are 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘺 𝘪𝘯 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘰𝘸𝘦𝘳 𝘴𝘦𝘢𝘵 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘥𝘺𝘯𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘤 with AI.

So, consider what may happen to human connection when people get accustomed to being "in the power seat of the dynamic" over time.
