What do Parents need to know about AI?

Dec 18, 2025

Most parents think their kids are using AI for homework help, or as a glorified Google, but that is not the reality. Most kids are using AI as a friend, as a therapist, and even as a boyfriend or girlfriend.

I cover this and more in Hannah Nwoko's article for Parents.

Highlights:

Dr. Wood suggests for parents to have small, casual ongoing conversations with their kids, asking questions such as, “What do you think about AI?” “If you use it, what are your favorite ways of using it?” “Have you ever had a negative experience with AI?”

When using AI for help, Dr. Wood suggests parents avoid asking for direct parenting advice. Instead, prompt the AI to ask you questions that support your own conclusions and decisions regarding your specific situation.

“You are always the expert of your life; AI is simply a supportive tool for reflection,” adds Dr. Wood “You have the final say, not AI.”
